What is Ortho-K?

Ortho-K, short for orthokeratology, uses custom-designed contact lenses to gently reshape the cornea while you sleep. Often described as “braces for the eyes,” these lenses provide an innovative, non-surgical way to improve vision. When worn overnight, Ortho-K lenses temporarily reshape the cornea, allowing you to see clearly during the day without needing glasses or contacts.

Why Choose Ortho-K As An Adult?

Dr. Letourneau offers Ortho-K as a convenient, comfortable option for adults who want to eliminate daytime glasses or contacts. This solution is perfect for those who want a natural look without eyewear, or for anyone seeking relief from dry eyes caused by daytime lens use.

How Does Ortho-K Work?

Your cornea is the transparent, dome-shaped surface that bends light to help you focus. Because the corneal tissue is naturally flexible, it can be reshaped gently and temporarily. Ortho-K lenses, FDA-approved for overnight wear, use the natural tears between the lens and the cornea to reshape the front surface of your eye while you sleep. This gentle flattening adjusts how light enters your eye, resulting in clearer vision the next day. When you remove the lenses in the morning, your cornea retains its new shape for many hours, giving you sharp, glasses-free sight throughout the day.
